My mother-in-law just downgraded from Windows Vista back to the Windows program before that. Needless to say, all of her work docs have the .docx extension. Is there a way to get those documents from .docx to .doc in order for her to be able to use them without having to retype all of them?

I think so.
First things first, Docx and doc are extentions for Microsoft Word, which is a separate program from Windows. That's neither here nor there, but it is kind of important.

Oh. Well, I might not have a problem, then. I'm not sure what version of Microsoft she had on her old computer (the one with Vista), but I know the version she has on her new computer is Microsoft 2007. So I might have completely confused the issue. I've backed all of her documents up on a flash drive and will load them into her computer tonight. Hopefully it will work just fine!

Oh, should have posted this yesterday. Nuggie, you were right, and thanks! Your tidbit about Microsoft 2007 versus Vista saved me a huge headache. I was able to get everything off her old computer (with MS 2007) onto her new computer (with MS 2007) went without a hitch.
