As weird as it sounds, it does. I don't get the BSOD but the computer shuts down and reboots itself and when restarted, I get the "has recovered from a serious problem" message.

I've scanned multiple times for viruses/malware.
Had the power supply replaced
Unplugged tower from surge protector directly into wall outlet
Tried every USB port
Replaced printer cable
Had tower cleaned for dust
Running Windows XP with SP3
Currently have the printer connected to my new laptop to see if it crashes

Anything else I should be trying?

Stupid question: have you tried uninstalling and/or reinstalling your printer drivers?

No but when the power supply got replaced, also had the latest version of the driver installed.

Our printer refuses to work at all-like the message isn't reaching the printer from the computer. We even got the right WINDOWS XP installed and it doesn't make any difference. A new printer may be in order. (Didn't mean to hijack YOUR thread-just thought both problems might be addressed here  )

I dont own the thread. Try a different USB port, try a different printer cable. Check if there is a new driver available.

I would try reinstalling the drivers just in case, those do have a nasty habit of getting corrupted... or at least try rolling back to an older version to see if the problem persists.

I called Canon, who suggested creating a new user account in case something in the registry got corrupted so that is what I am trying now. :crossed:

Well, that wasn't it. Woke up this morning to the sign in page so I knew the computer had crashed.

I installed the printer software on my laptop and connected the USB cable to that. The desktop and laptop had been running continuously since Tuesday morning and neither of them have crashed. So I am going to call Canon again and we are going to uninstall everything related to the printer and re-install and we'll see how that goes.
