Just heard it this morning, I cannot believe this is going to happen due to the condition of the streets. I'm not that familiar with the series...is it pretty good racing?

Just looked at the map again, no way this happens as if they have to venture down Classen Blvd it would be a disaster waiting to happen, it's pretty bad between Reno and NW10th if the course goes that way.

The series has surpassed Formula One as "the pinnacle of motorsport." I love the series and support just about everything they do. But they don't belong on street courses. Maybe one or two a year, but these cars need to stretch their legs. They need to be on circuits where the prototypes can hit 200mph and have to deal with GTs going 70mph slower. They need to be able to pass and corner and display driving and engineering expertise. On tracks like Road America and Mosport and Laguna Seca and Road Atlanta they can be the best racing to watch in person or on TV. On a street course, it all become a bit processional and tedious and races are decided by pit stops and safety car periods.

Hmmmmmm.....

Interesting, but I agree with your comments as a race in the downtown area is a bad idea..those roads SUCK!

Noricks brother had a short stint in the truck series, Lund was part of the group who owned the defunct OKC Blazers minor league hockey team.

And all of this on the heels of the mayor shutting down OKC's State Fair Speedway....motherfuckers.....

Heh, forgot to add, a couple years ago there was a guy who said the street around Bricktown was so bad that he lost control of his truck and ended up in the drainage ditch known lovenly as the Bricktown Canal.

We've seen bumpy streets in street racing before... when ChampCar ran San Jose, they went over railroad tracks, for crying out loud. Yeah, it was a poor idea.

Was there in '07. I'll make the trip up for the NASCAR weekend in June, not sure if I can afford two trips. But the ALMS weekend is my second choice if I'm afforded two race weekends.

REEEEEEEJECTED!

No play for Mr Gray, I assume.

Quote:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)—The Oklahoma City Council has rejected a plan that would have committed $7 million in city money to land a Grand Prix race.

The council voted 6-2 against the proposal Tuesday. Opponents said they did not feel comfortable committing the money in the current economic climate.

The proposal by Oklahoma City Grand Prix LLC called for an American Le Mans Series race during the Fourth of July weekend next year. The money was to be repaid by the group over a 10-year period.

Businessman Trent Ward helped lead the effort to secure the funding. After the vote, he said the opportunity to host such a race probably won’t come again.

I really never did believe this would happen, I said earlier that the streets were pretty bad and the councilors didn't want to pony up the dough to fix them for a race.

Ok, how about fixing them for the citizens then????

Well even though the city council said no to a $7 mil upfront bailout for the ALMS event. Another group OKC Motorsports has approached the city about bringing in another event. They claim to have an agreement with a sanctioning body, a event sponsor and investors will to help cover the cost. Or in other words they have everything that Oklahoma Grand Prix LLC did not.
