Given the news that have been coming out of F1 these past few weeks one has to wonder if Gene Hass' desire to start a US F-1 team is anything more than a pipe dream and a waste of money.

It was reported that Mercedes spent over $500 MILLION this year to develop their championship winning car.

On the other end of the spectrum Caterham F1 has had their shop raided and their spare parts seized by officials in Great Britain. The team told the driver not to crash in practice or they could not make the race. Then pulled the car early due to the fear of damaging the car because it would mean they could not make the next race.

before anyone says anything about the date on the article in Europe they place thr day first then the month and then the year. d/m/y

Teams Marussia and Caterham have both filed for bankruptcy and will not be at Austin this weekend. Marussia, Catrerham, Saber and Force India have signed a letter written to F1 about cost cont5ols. It seems to run mid pack and about 3 seconds off the pace of the front running teams it cost between $120-$150 MILLION. The front running teams are spending around $500 million per year. Compare this to what Haas is familiar with. Top NASCAR teams such as Hendricks and their multi-car teams have budgets of around $100 million. If he is unable to afford to compete regularly in Sprint Cup he will be a full time tail ender in F1. IF HE EVEN QUALIFIES due to 107% rule. .

Keep in mind that, if we are down to 18 cars, the first thing that will go, even before three cars per team, is the 107% rule. 17 or fewer cars on the grid costs Bernie money. Eliminating the 107% rule is free.

Remember a couple of years ago when the option was on the table to cap costs at $40 million? That seems like it would have been a pretty good idea all of a sudden. Especially when teams are now spending more than a half 1 billion.
