LOL Not much room for decals on the bumpers..... ;)

He's got Tony's number as his goal is to "take over Tony's ride" - or now Clint's since "he's keeping the seat warm until I'm old enough"....

KIDS!

PS - after a lot of sweat, blood, tears and cursing - the car is put back together and will be scaled when we get to the track tonight....I will try to update before we head behind the Steel Curtain tomorrow morning.....

Friday was rough...Cookie got last in her Novice Blue A main....and, after being up to third, Lil Red hit the wall in the Animal and broke the chain....so last for him, too....

Then....the Honda A main came with him starting last....he was carefully picking his way through and was up to 7th .... after another caution, new started 7th on the field but in 6th place (lapped car)....came around 2 laps later and passed 4 cars to pull into thjrd....was green the rest of the way and, while he gained on 2nd, not enough time to get there.

That was a podium finish with the repaired car....not too shabby. ..

Well, Friday night was, um, interesting....

Cookie garnered second in both her heat and A main

Lil Red got a third in Animal heat and 4th in Honda heat...

Animal A main the car just wouldn't go - too tight - ended up 5th...

Then came the Honda A main - last race of the night - so, around 10:15 or so at night.....the kid started 4th and got shuffled back at the start (fairly normal for a second row, outside start at our track)....he picked them off one at a time and made his way up to third....on a yellow with 4 to go, he found himself (finally) right behind second - we start single file.....by turn 1 he was inside that car, coming out of two, they bumped and a wreck ensued....the judges decided that Tommy wasn't "in" and sent only him to the back..... you know it's a bad call when a) every other handler on pit road looks up at the judges stand and throws up their hands and b) the other driver comes to find you after the race to apologize!! Any way, since that can't be changed, the kid went to the back of a 9 car field and got himself up to 5th by the checkered (and he was breathing on the fourth and third place cars....one or two more laps and he'd have at least gotten back to third). He ran such a good race that the winner's mom is heard on video yelling "get there!!" to Tommy!!! <3

We race Sunday the 20th and Friday the 25th....then we will be off until the third weekend of September. This worked out perfectly - we will be in Charlotte and Darlington for the end of August/beginning of September. When we get home from that, Lil Red will be having his tonsils and adenoids taken out....he'll have a week to recover before school starts and 9 days before a long weekend of racing....

Oh, and for the 'big guy' - after having a tire blow due to debris from a car who lost his entire rim in front of him - the pit crew (my boys Trevor and Travis along with the other driver of the car, Heidi) made a 12 second tire change and got him back out on the track....he finished 8th of 13 cars on the night. Even more amazing, they found out the right front they put on had 43 psi - they run 26. It was not handling well, but he still managed some passes and to run fairly decent.....

Thanks for 'listening'...

We raced our DLM up in Northern California, 8 hours up five hours back (traffic) finished a solid second from dead last but the scorers felt we finished third, so be it, only a hundred bucks... they made a bunch of lame excuses but the crowd was on our side...LOL Oh the guy they gave second to, its the track promoters car... driven by a good guy who knew the real finish... no harsh words.. much fun had by all...

Yeah....it wasn't....couldn't figure out what the H he was doing....then found out....LOL

but he got out there...all that matters...

;)

Oh, and the crew chief tore down the Animal car today - and found out the set up guy screwed up a tie rod - and is most likely what is making the car tight; or at least it isn't helping any.....we shall see

I was asked to be one at one time, no balls, I bailed out....LOL  I know its a tough job, but these two cars were door to door for 5 or 6 laps.... no one wasn't watching them....

We have transponders, too....in the end, if it is that close, it comes down to the majority - we have 3 paper scorers and the computer..... we had an A main finish with the winner less than an inch ahead of second on Friday night.....thankfully, all 4 scorers - counting the computer - agreed

This is the only track we race at that doesn't use transponders.... They say they tried but they were always screwed up....

Sunday update:

Cookie WINS!!! both her heat and her A main - makes for 9 wins total on the season - 6 A mains....

Lil Red had an 'interesting' day - he got wrecked on the throwing of the green flag, got pushed to the back of the field and then wrecked from the side in turn 2.....the kid who caused it was clearly NOT in a space to make his pass....but they did a 'no call' and all the cars involved went to the back....that put him back to starting third (was originally second) .... he moved up to second and stayed there until about 3 laps to go....car looked 'funny' but he held on tight for third. Turns out, he left front shock shaft was bent into an "L" on the first hit - and he raced that way....so not too bad. However, with the new shock, we had no time to rescale and, for the A main, after getting beat and banged by a driver for the majority of the race, he ended up 4th....

in the honda, he started 1st and ended up 3rd in that heat as well.....he went out in that race and was running decent when he, again, started getting beaten and banged on by the same driver from the previous race....he never 'wrecked' so no calls were made - he ran a hard-fought 5th in that race. You know it wasn't on him and the way he raced when his crew chief isn't unhappy with him for a finish at that spot.....he was so very very frustrated (and, ends up, running a fever AGAIN).....but we told him we'd get 'em this Friday night.....

And, just so you know I'm not 'making excuses', that kid drives a third division - and, in that race, he drove RIGHT THROUGH the cars in front of him - that time, both cars wrecked and the kid got put to the back - the race director also let his handlers (during the race) and him (after the race) know that if he races like that on Friday he is being parked for the month of September. The kid's little brother raced like an a$$ on Sunday, too.....

Kids race Friday night; dad races Saturday night - next week we leave Tuesday for Charlotte and then Darlington; Lil Red has surgery on September 7th (prayers accepted) for his tonsils/adenoids and, when that is done, we will be back to the specialist for his other issues. Our next races after Friday will be our big three day weekend September 16-18th.

Prayers that all goes well with surgery and medical issues.

Love reading these updates.

I must say, I had a guy that ran over me (and others) for years. I finally had enough about midway through one year. I wasn't going to intentionally wreck him, per se, but If the opportunity presented itself....

I let several opportunities pass because of points.

Later, he's leading the points, and he bounced off a car outside of me and came across the track in front of me in turn 4 on the first lap of the feature.

I mightve could had missed him if I had lifted.

I didn't lift, and plowed through his left rear spinning him. Somebody else hit him, and broke his rear axle.

Looking at the film later, it didn't appear blatant. I had mouthed off earlier in the year to him and he went and cried like the whiney b that he was to the officials, so they were looking for retaliation. A fellow driver giving me a thumbs up after the wreck for wrecking him didn't help, LOL.

Only black flag I ever got. Since it was the next to last race of the year, it denied him a championship. Knocked me out of the championship too, but I was all but eliminated anyway at that point. Other than no money for the night, it didn't affect me whatsoever in the standings. I was far enough ahead in points of the guy behind me, and it was unrealistic that I could pass the two guys in front of me in points.

Never had another problem with him though.

I felt guilty for about.... never.

I don't recommend retaliation, but, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

HAHAHAHAH Love it!!

The odd thing is, this kid usually races clean....but both he and his little brother lose their minds on occasion - they BOTH did this past Sunday....

We shall see how Friday night goes. On a 'good' note - he won't be around for many more races this season - we go back to Sundays AND he has football....

Now to see if the other wrecking ball comes back....

Report from our past racing weekend - last one until September 15th....

Cookie started second in both her heat and A main - and finished second in both; but not before she took the lead at the green in the heat....about half way through the second place car was passing her when she chopped down - and they both wrecked (if there were judges, Cookie would have gotten the call - but, without judges, both cars go to the back)....she went completely to the back because they had to bring her in with the car bent and did some work (the EMTs also went to her, but no one seemed to 'overly' upset so the mama stayed where she was).....she went back out with a severely bent tie rod AND a 2 inch toe-out in the right front....but she passed and made it to second. Next thing the mama saw was the crew chief (big brother Travis) walking her to the ambulance for ice....I text him and he said 'she said she doesn't want you; she'll come up later'; has a good bruise on her left upper arm and her first seatbelt hickie - but she got back in for the A main and raced hard!!

Lil Red started third in Animal and finished there as well in his heat; started 5th in his Honda heat and finished 4th. Those were his starting positions for the A's. In Animal, about mid-way through the main, he made a pass from third and went to the LEAD!!!! It was a STRONG MOVE - buttttttttttt - he made a misstep coming out of turn 4 the next lap and got freight trained to the back....he made some passes and ended up in 4th. In the Honda, he started on the outside and made one helluva move on lap one to not only stay on the outside (almost impossible from the 4th starting spot) but to PASS for third and was moving on 2nd when a car behind them spun - before the first lap was complete....so back to 4th and now a single file restart....he stayed close and tried passing for third a few times before the car just got way too tight and he settled into 4th.

The dad raced Saturday night - didn't do good in his heat as, about halfway through (only 8 laps thank God), he realized his belts weren't tight - so he just stayed out of the way and finished. In the Feature, he started 13th - and finished 9th - he ran a really good race and was contending for spots. His teammate got WRECKED by a woman who told her all week she was going to do it - but the officials saw 'nothing'.....if you follow me on Facebook, you can hear me screaming my fool head off (like Bobby Allison, the race track makes a demon out of me). Her husband and car owner told my oldest son they'd 'meet him in the parking lot'....as hot a head as he is, he just laughed at the guy as someone stepped in between. Nicole did a great job getting back on the track and, when she got right on the bumper of "Pinky" she made every effort to pass her clean and did NOT wreck her (she's a better person than me).... after all that, I, thankfully, walked into the pits without my kids and "Pinky" and her other half saw my cooler bag (says "Schwarz Racing" on it) and said something. I turned and said "really?" and they shut up. Grown adults - been slandering a 17 year old all week and then act like punks. Took another driver out, too - he's all of 5'1" and a New York Italian; they went after him in the pits, too - he let them know he may be small but the last thing they wanted to see was his 'full Long Island Italian" come out.... BWHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA

So....thankfully in many ways, we are off until September 15th (though the teammate races on Saturday so my boys are going because they don't trust those idiots to not try something when they realize it's just Nicole and her parents there)......we are off to Charlotte and then Darlington....and we won't be racing the two day event at another track the following weekend because Lil Red is having surgery the 7th.

Now that I have bored you to tears.....

and, the mama goes back to work tomorrow; kids back to school Wednesday....

I'm not suggesting this....

...but if a driver is running over everybody, what happens if everybody takes turns running over him.

It's irritating and expensive to fix wrecked stuff. Especially if it's every week.

First: Hubby did not race the car this week; the other driver of it had a blown brake line about 3 laps into the feature.... they once again had to do a pit stop for a flat for his teammate's car; got her out and she finished 12th

Second: WHAT A WEEKEND!!!! Considering Lil Red was 9-10 days post surgery and only on day 2 and 3 of 'real' food:

Cookie raced Friday night and Lil Red opted to sit and rest. Cookie ran second in both her heat and feature and was running much better than the last time out.

We stayed at the track; got a decent night's sleep for the drivers (while the architect major went over every little detail on all three cars, scaled them, and all the other things a good crew chief does, until going on 2 in the morning).

Cookie qualified second and was only 2 hundredths off of the fast time for Novice Blue Plate. She would start first and finish first in her heat; but started last in the A main and came in second. She was happy - and, truly, that is all that matters.

Then Lil Red went out to qualify his Animal - he was out first and ran one helluva lap! We went clear through to the last driver before someone ran times that appeared 'better' as the laps went on (we do 8 laps; at our track, we count all 8) - then, suddenly, the last lap for that driver was over and he was 0.006 SLOWER!!! :woohoo: Not only did Lil Red get Fast Time, he set the TRACK RECORD!!!! 11 years of racing, we've never even SNIFFED a fast time in anything other than novice divisions!!!!! It was AMAZING!!! That put him starting last in his heat. He did run about between 2nd and 4th but ended up 4th. That put him starting 3rd in the A main (lowest number of points started first and so on). Right behind the kid whose qualifying time was second fastest. This race would also be a back and forth race and, with three to go, he was in third place - on the restart, the only lapped car was between him and second - the race director, the head race director, and my crew chief all PLEADED with them to pull their driver in and then send him back out (this would have put him to the tail end of the field - he had no chance to win and could not advance his position from where he was)...they refused - more on that later. It is what it is and it is only a courtesy and not required. So, he started in 4th position, but was in third. The fourth place car hooked him coming out of 4 at the throwing of the green, allowing 5th place to pass them both. Now, on another day, he may have let the car that hooked him go - NOT TODAY! He kept it to the floor and straightened out and went after the car that passed him, staying in front of the one that hooked him. He just couldn't get to that car but....the podium finish was in his stars because the leader decided to make a fool of himself coming to the checkers and spun all on his own! Tommy avoided him and came across third (he WAS catching the car in front of him, but three laps on a 1/20th mile track goes by in just about 21 seconds....) So Podium FINISH!!! :woohoo: The kids that beat him are 11 - so just one year older - and 14...not too bad.

For the Honda - he was out second to last and grabbed the fast time on his last lap!!! Then the last qualifier came out, and, it was looking good for grabbing two fast times and two track records, but on that last lap he grabbed it away by 2 hundredths of a second. So second fastest, which put him second from last AND on the outside line for the heat. He would do a great job in 20 laps and finish 2nd. The qualifier behind him finished 1st, so, while they tied in points, that put Lil Red to the pole for the A main because of timing. He grabbed the lead right from the green, but an accident behind him bunched the field again - now a single file restart. He maintained the lead for about 6-8 laps and then second and third lined up to pass him...the three cars ran several laps going back and forth - good tight, side by side and bumper to bumper, no hitting or smashing each other. Eventually, he ended up third with all of that and, with a race that went green the rest of the way, he ended up in third - though gaining on second as the laps wound down. He probably should have been moved to second as there was some controversy with the winner (a part fell off during the race; it was clarified as 'not a safety issue' by those in the tech area. However, further review will go to National. We, as well as the second place team, agreed that we are not going to have them change this outcome as it was NOT an advantage to his car; however, we all, including the winner, requested that we get this point clarified in case it ever comes up again - the overflow canister and tubing came off).

One other exciting thing also happened. All the drivers got to do laps on the inner oval at Big Wall Stadium Speedway on Saturday night - just moments after finding out about Ted Christopher's loss in a plane crash that afternoon. The kids ran some 'at speed' laps (though my two had orders to take it easy since we don't have the resources for new engines) and then they lined up to carry the flags for the National Anthem. Tommy was not originally selected to carry one - but our tech director called him over and he got to have one! He was SO PROUD of this - he is our youngest driver ever allowed to do this. I hope to have pictures later....

So, you can see - it was a great weekend! That win IS COMING!!

If it doesn't show up here, that connection should allow you to go and see a picture of Lil Red carrying our Nation's colors at Big Wall Stadium for the National Anthem.....he is the black car, with the white stripes (last flag in the picture)...

Last race weekend of the season - UPDATE!!

Friday night we had cone races....Cookie took her Sr Novice to Victory Lane; and that was followed by Lil Red taking his Sr Animal to VICTORY LANE!! First time for the Animal to win an A main - and, on the way there, he told me "I want to get my Animal a win!!" Goal accomplished!! He was in second in the Sr Honda when a driver put the chrome horn to his rear bumper...and then blocked the last 5 laps - so a podium for that one.

Saturday was a set of two heat races in each division - and included passing points. Both drivers picked mid-pack pill picks (good for passing points in BOTH races). Cookie finished second in her first, and first in her second - with the passing point and win, she led her A main to the green from the pole - and NEVER LOOKED BACK!! She led all 20 laps of the race; including pulling away quickly when there was a caution. She has not let go of her flag except to shower.... <3

For Lil Red, his Sr Animal didn't love him as much on Saturday. In the first heat, he was in second place and gaining on first (and had 3 passing points) - all of that went away when the right front shock broke and catapulted him up on the wall Brad K style (think California in the Navy car) and down the front straight away. We may have been able to do some repairs in the pits in the allotted 5 laps; but chose to bring him in and do proper repairs for the next race. Again, he was moving through the field but got wrecked 3 times - the third time - another flip. So, again, back to the drawing board. All of my crew chief's hard work paid off in the A main- Lil Red wheeled that car (even while it had a bit of a 'bike' to it) to a third place finish and was gaining on the leaders when the checkers flew!

The Sr Honda, on the other hand, was ON FIRE (figuratively) - he took it to TWO wins in the heats and, with the wins and his passing points, put himself on the pole for the A main. He got bumped on the start and moved back to third; took about 4 laps to get his momentum back up and get to second. With 7 to go, the caution flew...but there were two lapped cars between him and the leader. One moved over at the start, the other raced him for a position he didn't have. By the time that driver realized he was racing a leader, Tommy was 6 car lengths behind and only had 3 laps to catch the leader. He did gain a bit, but not enough time - so a podium of second. It may sound disappointing, but he really beat the heck out of a lot of drivers this weekend with his effort.

To top the weekend, our crew chief got to race in a retired drivers race. He led the majority of the race, until the throttle cable came undone - pitted and fixed - so drove through the field with 5 laps left to also end up with a podium finish of thirds!!

Weekend totals:

13 races
6 wins
2 seconds
3 thirds
2 flips

Time to tear down the cars and get ready for next March!!
