Tax bill

The GOP plan would phase out the estate tax, helping the ultra-wealthy....

That language, that perception. The estate tax is grave robbing. Period.

And for those of you who believe Social Security is really your money? Why don't you get to pass it on to your family after you die?

It's a start.

You guys need to be paying your fair share. Why do you hate the poor and middle class?

That's going to prove very difficult. Probably in there (again, it was out once) as a first negotiations drop device.

Unfortunately, you're probably right. Cal, NY, and Ill will do their best to get that cut out.

I am certain only rates are going to get cut. All deductions have an army of defense.. We’d better hope cutting corporate rates stimulates like a MFer and raises revenue because the other cuts will only raise the deficit.

I’ll keep an open mind and hope they’re lucky.

If you figure the tax cut static, it costs 1.5 trill..... our world is not static.. there was a House member on the radio this after noon that that talked about that very thing, if they figure the GDP at a modest growth there is no deficit.... his modest was 3%.... gonna be hard to convince the Schumer side, they hate everything....

This should be properly (which means accurately) described as a Deductions Cut bill.

I'm down with that :rok:

But they're not cutting taxes, with the end goal being reducing spending. They're not reducing spending. Not even the rate of growth. This is fail.

There are some who see, in the long run, that this will actually increase taxes on the middle class. I heard one excellent analysis last night and there is an argument to be made against this bill on those grounds.

The analysis points out the mindset that deductions are things people count on, and that's sad because that's how the tax code in this country draws you in and holds you prisoner. That mindset sucks, that the tax code is infinite in perpetuity.

The only true tax reform that would make a difference is repealing the 16th Amendment. In lieu of that (it ain't happening) an across the board 10% tithe-like flat tax. That would solve a lot of problems, the most noteworthy being spending.

Spending is the problem. A huge problem. And this tax bill is a lot of "spending". Estimates I hear are with the cuts total comes to $920 billion. The closed deductions will net a $1.5 trillion revenue flow "back" to the government.

That's more money for them to do what they do best, spend.

:banghead: :hammer: :slap:

The Republicans are so fucking stupid, but at least they don't care about how they look anymore. I guess maybe that's progress. :slap:

46%

It's from Politico, but I have no reason to doubt it's accuracy. Rumor's have been floating around for a week or two about a "millionaire bracket" in the bill.

We already know the Dems won’t support it though it might score a few votes. It’s the Republican reps with voters who’s ox is being gored that are going to be a must have and a very hard sell.

My view at this point, it is a start... roll with it for a couple years and then revisit ... this isn't rocket science.... the government does need to take a few cuts too..... but some movement has to happen fairly soon...

It might be a start, but it's a bad start. The Democrats could have written this....

but I digress.

It has a lot of good things, but it is a long term trap and it will bite POTUS right where he lives down the road.

This is a trap. Trump should walk away from it, or at least tone it down.

Ya know the question you should be asking yourself is why don't they send up a very Reagan-like tax reform/cut bill?

Trump would sign it. They're not doing that are they? This is a "this is how it works lesson" bill and Trump is a fool if it lands on his desk and he signs it just to sign something because it will implode on him when he's running for re-election in 2020 and the Republicans will be right there saying he signed the bill.

There is a history lesson here and it should be revisited. The title of the chapter is "Read My Lips, No New Taxes".

Not what happened, but how it was used against 41 when the rubber met the road.

You could float an abortion bill that allowed 10 year olds to have an abortion without parental permission and Democrats would love it til you found a way to associate it with a tax cut.

This is not a good bill. It might be a good start, but it is not a good bill. Spending isn't addressed. Ignore, if you can, the talking point that the tax cuts are "paid" for. That's libtard talking points 101. And it is also zero sum game territory. And when you go there, that's how you get to off budget expenditures not being part of the budget, even though they are part of the actual budget vis-a-vis expenditure outlays. This is going to hurt the middle class in the long run, and by elimination of what they call "loopholes", which is stupid because those "loopholes" are part of the tax code and tax code is law.

The gains will be offset by the elimination of deductions. The end result will be a net plus for the government and that's part of how they're going to "pay" for the tax cuts. Even though they're going to spend it. On who knows what is anybody's guess.

This is bad, and it's a trap for Trump. It extends far beyond Trump, but he's the song of the moment. And it is a trap he seems eager to explore.

This is not a good tax bill. It is not even good fiscal policy. And contrary to Trump's proclamation that it's going to be the biggest tax cut in history....

it just ain't so.

And this is the sorry state that the Republican Party, butthurt because they lost to a novice, finds themselves in. Writing tax reform/cut bills that look and read as though they came out of a DNC platform committee meeting.
